- Each room in the residence halls is designed to accommodate two people. The rooms are furnished with standard twin size beds, dressers, desks, chairs, mirrors, drapes, sink, and a walk-in closet. In addition, each floor of the residence halls has two central bathrooms, kitchen, lounge, and a card-operated washer and dryer.
- Each suite is designed for four people and includes a bathroom with shower, a common area, and two sinks. Individual rooms are furnished with a long twin sized bed, dresser, desk, and a wardrobe. New Hall itself also includes the Sky Lounge which is equiped with a full size kitchen, sitting area and big screen television. Card-operated washer and dyers are located on the first floor of New Hall.
- Each apartment is designed for two or three people and includes a kitchenette, living room with study area, one large bedroom, bathroom, and balcony. Apartments are furnished with standard twin size beds, drapes, chairs, sofa, table, coffee table, and TV stand. Closets, dressers and bookshelves are built in. Card-operated washers and dryers are located in The Oaks (next to the pool).
Whether you live in an apartment or residence hall room, we suggest you bring your own long twin size bed sheets, mattress cover, blanket, bedspread/comforter, pillow and case, towels, study lamp, iron, alarm clock, and trash can. A word of caution--it is wise to wait until you meet your roommate(s) before you go all out with your decorating plans. For further information, click here.
Roommates are matched according to the information about habits/preferences provided on the housing application. Room assignments, as well as the names and contact information for roommates, will be mailed in mid-July.
What about phone service? (top)
All residence hall rooms, suites, and apartments are equipped with a phone jack. Local phone service is provided as part of your room cost. Also, all rooms have voice mail which is available free of charge. Phones are not provided for residents. If you do not already have a phone, you may want to wait to see if your roommate brings one. Each individual room in New Hall is equiped with its own phone jack and personal telephone numner. Your phone number will be given to you at check in. Public phones are also available in the lobby area of each residence hall.
Long Distance service: The NDNU bookstore has long distance cards available for sell in 60 minute increments. Calling cards are also available and any major retail outlet.
Where do I receive my mail? (top)
Each student living on campus is assigned a personal mailbox at check in. Mailboxes are located in JB Hall. Mail is delivered once a day, Monday-Friday, and packages may be picked up in the Mail Center in Ralston Hall. Your address will be as follows:

How secure are the residence halls? (top)
The exterior doors to JB and St. Joe’s Halls are locked from 8pm to 8am. Interior doors to the living areas are locked on a 24 hour basis. A call box is provided at the entrance of JB and St. Joe's Halls so that visitors may call the student they are visiting and be escorted into the living areas. Public Safety Officers patrol the campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week and may be contacted by cell phone. In addition, two residence staff members are on duty nightly starting at 8:00 PM in the lobby offices of JB Hall and St. Joe's Hall.
Can I bring my car? (top)
Students are allowed to bring their cars on campus. A parking permit is required. Parking permits can be paid for in the Business Office and obtained from the Public Safety Office, both located in St. Mary's Hall.. There is typically ample parking on campus, but remember that there are peak times during the day and evening when you may have to park your car further away from your room or apartment than normal. Please follow signage regarding fire zones, faculty lots, handicap spaces, and restricted parking.
What if I don't have a car? (top)
Not all students bring a car when they come to NDNU. Fortunately, the campus is located within 1/2 mile of various shops and services and different modes of public transportation. There are two shopping centers within walking distance from the University. These areas have between them: three grocery stores, six banks, three video rental stores, two drug stores, two hair salons, four dry cleaners, and a variety of restaurants and other businesses. The local bus service, SamTrans, will give you access to the entire Peninsula area. There are bus stops along Ralston Avenue and at the intersection of Ralston and El Camino Real, one half mile from campus. The commuter train, CalTrain, also has a stop at the corner of Ralston and El Camino. It runs parallel to El Camino Real and will take you to San Francisco, two large shopping malls, San Jose, and points in between. Maps and schedules for the bus and train service are available at the University Switchboard in St. Mary’s Hall.
Can I cook in my room? (top)
Because of safety and sanitary concerns, cooking is not permitted in residence hall rooms. Sandwich makers, hot plates, toasters, toaster ovens, grills or any appliance with an exposed heating element are prohibited. Microwave ovens, with the exception of MicroFridges, are not allowed in residence hall rooms. You may, however, bring items such as hotpots or coffee makers and refrigerators no larger than six cubic feet. Kitchens are available for resident use on the second and third floors of JB and on all three floors in St. Joe's. For New Hall residents there is a kitchen located in the Sky Lounge on the third floor. Apartment residents, because they have kitchenettes, are permitted to cook in their apartments. Microwaves are permitted, although refrigerators over six cubic feet are not permitted (note that refrigerators are provided in the apartments).

Other things to remember before you move on campus: All students must provide evidence of medical insurance, it is a requirement for living on campus. If you do not have insurance, you may purchase the campus health insurance plan. The plan covers you for a period of one year.
